An important meeting is taking place this Sunday in California as The Journey for Inmates continue to move forward.  Please read below and Pray!

This Sunday, Wayne Leffler & Chaplain Bruce Cunningham will be conducting 2 services during which they will be presenting The Journey to approximately 105 inmates who are a part of the 900 men in the West Yard. It is Chaplain Bruce's vision to have The Journey in each of the 7 Buildings that house the 900 men in the West Yard.

We are asking for prayer before & during this time!

The Journey for Couples Curriculum is Available

Influencers is a ministry to Men.  It always has been.  However, as we minister to men, we also minister to those in their spheres of influence.  As a matter of fact, we preach to men that their FIRST area of personal ministry is to their wives.  We have seen that a man who abides with Christ becomes a better husband.

However, many Journey wives are starving.  They hunger to find this same "intimate, abiding" connection to Christ, for they see the fruit of this relationship in their husbands.  They don't seem to be finding this in their Bible Studies and Small Groups.  We never thought Jesus' message about abiding and about making disciples was just for men, but we didn't think we were to carry this banner to women.

Then, an idea was birthed.  What if men, who had been through The Journey and found this intimate, abiding relationship with Christ, invited their wives to go on The Journey with a group of other couples?  This really resonated for we thought that this would not only help the wives, but it would help marriages.  However, we were not sure if it would be effective for a number of reasons.

Well, after 3 test groups in Tulsa and N.W. Arkansas, we believe we have indeed found a new expression for The Journey.  The Holy Spirit continues to expand our vision of how The Journey can be used.  Though there are definitely different group dynamics for a Couple's Group compared to a group of men, we have seen transformation.  We have seen women begin to read their Bibles, some for the first time.  We are seeing women begin to journal.  We are seeing healing begin to take place in a very deep way.  We are seeing marriages strengthened right before our eyes.  We are seeing God begin to build ministry teams between married couples.

It remains to be seen how this expression of The Journey will be expanded, but we want you to know the curriculum is available.  If you think God is leading you to possibly lead such a group, please send us an email at information@influencers.org, and we will be glad to send you a .pdf version of the curriculum.   You will still have to purchase the books that accompany our curriculum, but for now, the Guide Manuals and Participant Manuals are being offered at no charge.

The Spanish Journey Begins!

Just wanted you to know that the Journey Guide Manual in Spanish has just been completed and is in the publishing stages.  We have already published both The Journey to the Inner Chamber and The Prayer Cottage books in Spanish.  Meetings in Pucallpa, Peru have already taken place with potential Guides who want to lead men in Journey Groups.  There are also many opportunities in California to reach Spanish-speaking men all across that state.  

We sense a deep hunger for this message of "intimacy with Christ", and we have already heard stories of transformation, just from people reading The Journey to the Inner Chamber in Spanish.  We are very excited to see what God will do to reach His men, no matter what language they speak.

Financial Help needed on Portuguese Journey Translation

One of the most unexpected blessings that has occurred since the first Journey group in 2001 has been the longing from other countries and cultures for this curriculum.  The Journey curriculum has been translated into Spanish, Arabic and is in process of being translated into Mandarin, French and now Portuguese.

This has been exciting, but it has also been somewhat of a financial burden.  God is providing opportunities to reach men globally with this message of "Intimacy with Christ", but it costs money for these translations.  Every time we have had such an opportunity, God has moved the hearts of our men, who have generously and cheerfully stepped up to fund these projects.

Right now, we have an immediate need to raise $6500 for the translation of the Portuguese translation.  We have worked hard to whittle the translation cost down to the bare bones, and we are working out a payment plan to pay this off over time.  The goal is to get this project done in time for potential launch in November of this year.

A Word from Rocky

Greetings Fellow Influencers:

 

Have any of you gone through a “Rip Van Winkle” stage in your life, when you closed your eyes, and suddenly your life had gone past you as you slept?  Well, I haven’t had it to that extent.  But, I see the last few months much like it.

 

In mid December I had surgery on a troublesome leg.  The surgery was longer and more complex than was anticipated.  The rehab process has been similar, in that it likewise has been long, and painful.  What I thought would be only a few days of being sidelined and then back in the “game,” has, instead, been a forced time to “lie down in green pastures” by my Shepherd.   As many of you would do, I asked God why He took me out of the battle, when there is now so much opportunity to serve Him and especially since there is great need.  The answer was found in a little devotional book I read over 30 years ago.  Not all devotional books touch my heart like this one, and God’s word to my heart jumped off its pages when I read it.  I was then lifted to God’s perspective, rather than groveling with my own earthbound view, and it helped me understand what God was doing.  I’ll share it with you, for it might also help you as well:

 

 

God has shown me the last few months that He has great purpose in any event He allows in His child’s life, even one that puts a man on the “sidelines.”  God has reminded me He is the Great Shepherd, and I am a helpless lamb who needs to be nurtured and cared for by my Master.  Sometimes I forget this, and I try to make things happen according to my own wisdom and insight.  When I do this, I inevitably fail, and I am then reminded it is the King of Kings I serve, and it is not the other way around. 

 

God has also reminded me the opportunities given Influencers as a ministry, are to be pursued in the strength and enterprise of our King, rather than the efforts of His men, which includes me.  Don’t get me wrong, we do play our parts in response to God’s invitation.  But, we do our part as a result of our strong connection to the Vine, and His instructions that flow through this vital connection.  Sometimes God takes us away into His intensive care so our connection to the vine can be strengthened, which has been the case with me.  In doing this, He breathes new life and insight into us, to prepare us for our journey ahead.  This period can often be disguised as “wasted time or meaningless,” until we get His perspective which is …. He just wants to get us alone with Him for a while, so He can love on us.  When we grasp this purpose, we then do not want to come down from the mountain, as was the case with Moses.  But the truth is, God transforms His man so he can walk in the valleys and to impact the people who live there.  Our mountaintop experience will one day be a permanent way of life, when He takes us to His kingdom.  Until that time comes, we live with and influence those who live in the valley, so they can see and embrace the King we serve.

 

Nine years ago God birthed Influencers as a ministry for one purpose, which was to deliver a message to God’s family.  It was not then, nor is it now, about a ministry, a procedure, a formula, a discipleship model, or a strategy for reaching men.  Rather, it is a message from God to His family, telling us He wants us to come and abide with Him.  For some reason this message has been forgotten in His churches, and His family.  This message was the single most important instruction Jesus gave to His disciples before He was taken from them.  It is also the single most important instruction Jesus gives to His family today, for in it we gain all we need to find for ourselves a transformed life, a life that plays a strategic part in God’s Great Commission.  I’ll say it again.  It is the greatest instruction for God’s family today, and we have forgotten it!!  Little wonder this ministry is growing like a fast-moving virus, for we just deliver His message.  As a result, we are now invited to lands and languages none of us have ever even visited before.  Little wonder this movement grows across the nation, as we see thousands on men going through The Journey, and, in turn, experiencing transformed lives?  They are longing to hear this message from God!  We see and hear about these men constantly.  This is easy, for we know the number of Journey Groups starting, and the men are very vocal about what they are finding.  However, what we are not able to measure is the unlimited impact these men are having on their marriages, and homes, and churches, and businesses, and neighborhoods.  These men are making a difference, because Jesus is making a difference in them.  Yes, it is a message we carry that is given to us from God, and He has also inspired a model and curriculum that we use to take these men into this abiding relationship with their Lord.  This is why God has anointed this ministry, and why it is growing so broadly, and so quickly.  It is not because of a man, or men who lead this ministry.  It is because it is the King Himself Who leads it.

 

God pulled me away for this important reminder the last few months.  I am glad He did, for I needed an adjustment in my perspective.  But, He also told me to get off the bench and put my helmet on, for He’s putting me back in the game.  Next week I will begin a new devotional series called, “Go With ME.”  He’s given me a lot He wants to say, and I can’t wait to share it with you.  Be talking to you next week.

The Journey is going into Prisons

We continue to be amazed and surprised at how new expressions of The Journey constantly come about.  One of the most recent developments has been with our Influencers West group, where they are answering a call to take The Journey to inmates.

Bill Kauble, one of our west coast leaders, was praying with his wife about The Journey and specifically, about the French translation to take to the Congo.  During the prayer, she paused, raised her head and said, "Bill, God wants you to take The Journey to prison!"  Bill admits that this seemed a quite a stretch for him, and though he wanted to doubt the validity of this call, God kept opening doors for him to visit San Quentin and some L.A. prisons.  Before he knew it, Bill Glass Prison ministries stepped up, desiring a partnership with Influencers.

Bill began to discuss The Journey with inmates he met, and the concept was very well-received.  Next, God raised up a man from their Friday morning "Band of Brothers", who had strong relationships with the Chino State Prison.  As of this week, approval has been granted to pilot the first Prison Journey Group at Chino.  Bill hopes, at some point, to bring Pete McKenzie in to do his "Man of God" talk, which has blessed many men in conjunction with The Journey.

Please pray for God's favor and provision and blessing upon this initiative.  Bill's deepest prayer is that The Journey could be used to truly transform these men and ensure their success once they are released.  He also asks for prayer for protection for the men who go on The Journey, as they will be targeted by the enemy.

Financial Support Needed for Influencers

Influencers is funded solely by Curriculum Sales and by the monthly support of a few donors.  We have scraped by these past 7 years by the grace of God and by the servant’s hearts of a strong volunteer base.  Our founders have always felt like the Influencers’ message of “Intimacy with Christ” was much bigger than N.W. Arkansas, and true to the vision, we have seen this ministry expand in ways beyond our wildest dreams.  Opportunities have arisen which required response in 2009. 

 

 

We have expanded our curriculum to reach the needs of brothers who speak different languages, we have developed a quality website which we believe will broaden our reach to the world and we have developed curricula to accommodate a calling to reach men and their wives, as well.  We responded to all of these opportunities out of our General Fund, money which was intended to provide for ongoing administrative support.  Thus, the General Fund has been severely depleted.  Below is a breakdown of money spent on some projects, as well as a list of 2010 projects, which will require support:

 

·         Spanish Translation- $10,000 for Publishing (the Translation cost was paid for by a generous donation by one Influencer)

 

·         Mandarin Translation- $2,000 for creating The Prayer Cottage- since this book will be distributed in Asia, we most likely will create an E-Book format.  We are feeling lead to offer this for free, asking only for a small donation.

 

·         Journey for Couples- We have re-written the curriculum somewhat, making it gender neutral and adding some additional sessions, which requires additional layout and publishing costs.  We don’t know a total as of yet.

 

·         The Website- $12,000 was spent on the new website.  There may be some additional resources needed as the use of the website grows and new opportunities arise which require additional programming.

 

·         Journey Media- $3000 came out of General Funds to go toward producing our new teaser Video, but a $10,000 generous donation funded the rest of the project.  We believe there will be a need to produce more high-quality video projects to help reach a visual society, especially on the internet.

 

·         The Journey in Prisons- Influencers in Southern California are being led to take The Journey to inmates.  They want to provide the curriculum for free, which will require donor support.

 

All of this is VERY exciting.  We are trusting the Lord to provide for our needs, as we go after His men.  Many things are falling into place, and the Lord only knows all the places He will take us in 2010.

Thanks to all the Influencers brothers who attended our 1st Influencers Gathering.  We had Influencer brothers from N.W. Arkansas, Tulsa, Dallas, Sacramento, Southern California, Bakersfield.

It was a great time of Worship, Celebration, Connecting, Encouraging, Affirming and Motivation to keep helping other men discover Intimacy with Jesus Christ.

Men, if you live anywhere near the Northwest Arkansas region, I would like to personally invite you to join our first, Influencers Celebration Conference that will be held in Springdale on December 5^th.  Please go to our website and sign up for this special event if you plan to join us.  We have only space for 360 men, so sign up early to insure getting a seat.

 

Pete McKenzie, who is the West Coast Director of Influencers, will be our keynote speaker.  Pete and I have been best friends for over 44 years, and he has been one of the most influential persons in encouraging my own walk with Christ.  For that reason I am excited about sharing him with you, and allowing him to encourage you.  He is a gifted men’s conference speaker and one of the most sought after in Southern and Northern California.  You will be glad that you came to our conference.

 

We will also provide breakout groups after lunch that will provide important interchange of ideas and practices that God is blessing in different regions.  Our basic conference will begin at 8:30 AM and end at noon, where we will enjoy lunch together.  We will then move to smaller groups for our breakout sessions.  We will wrap up the conference completely by 3:00 PM, giving you plenty of time to return home by a decent time.

 

I have wanted our men to draw together for such an occasion as this for a long time.  I believe it will be the highlight of the year for many of us, for it will give us some encouragement that is sorely needed right now.  Please join us, and allow God to bless you in a very special way.

We are so excited to see Influencers from Tulsa, N.W. Arkansas and California gathering together in one place to celebrate all that God has accomplished, to connect with Journey brothers and to hear a message you need to hear from Influencer leader, Pete McKenzie.

This gathering is reminiscent of how Nehemiah gathered the people after the completion of the wall around Jerusalem.  God has unified us, strengthened us, and sustained us these past 8 years....it's appropriate for us to gather and give Him thanks.

We are so excited about this new website, which we truly hope will be a tool that God will use to expand this ministry as far as He wants to take it.  We had 3 goals in mind in creating the new website:  Connectivity, Education and Resourcing.  The most exciting piece is the Connectivity.  We hope to see men all over the world connecting with each other, realizing they are part of a much bigger army of God's men.  We also want to encourage each other as we share the wonderful stories of transformation occurring in men and in their spheres of influence.

Journey Tribes

The Journey has been helping men in their walk with Christ for 8 years now.  Many men have been transformed and have become "self-feeders" on God's Word.  Many men have taken it as a Sacred Responsibility to bring The Journey to other men, and they have become Guides.  However, there is one key component of Influencers which has been lost in the process.  Many great relationships form during a 9-month Journey, but unless a man continues on as a Guide, he may lose connection with these men and with the ministry.  We believe God is building a great army of men, and even if a man does not feel called to lead a Journey Group, he is part of our army.  It is imperative that we all stay connected in some way.  Hopefully, this new website will help with that, but we believe it needs to go much deeper.

Our founding fathers have been praying about a new concept called "Influencer Tribes".  These would be groups of Influencers who have completed The Journey and who agree to band together to support each other and go through life together.  Below is their vision.  We'd appreciate your comments:
