Heaven Knocking on Our Door- DAY 17- January 28, 2020

Day Seventeen

The Work of God

Scripture:

Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”  John 6:28-29 ESV

Thought:

I would imagine that the answer Jesus gave for this question to Him would have been surprising to those people?  How does it affect a follower of Christ who wants to sincerely serve Him with its clarity, and yet, its revelation?  Does it relieve us and make us feel good about letting go of our busy hectic efforts with trying to serve God and simply use trust and reliance on Him instead of laboring as if we had the burden alone?  On the other side of this thought, does it instead burden us even more, for we have no point of reference with its meaning?  Now think this through.  If I am a rule keeper and do not do well with an entrepreneurial approach to follow something as vague as “belief,” then it will shake my comfort zone, no matter how hectic it is.  After all busy beavers need to see chips and progress, or they become discouraged. Can I enter into a new approach to serving the Loving God that I want to obey and make disciples for as He asked me to do?  Can I learn to do it with Him, instead of for Him?

Application:

I have learned that my abiding relationship with Christ is the connection that must be made and maintained to be able to have His Divine work flow through me.  If this happens, I am invited to more and better things that I could ever do for Him in my own effort.  May it be that I do not forget this, even though a demand causes me to feel that I must take control to determine the best outcome.  It is not a question if my motive is about Jesus or myself.  That has already been determined that I want it to be for His glory alone.  Rather it is a trust that the best outcome is determined by Him, and it requires His work through me to be my method.  It is hard to go against my instincts and not take the load on myself.  Therefore, I must be committed to stay the course with Him rather than for Him.

Response:

Father, I am willing to follow Your leadership and trust Your words, “Apart from Me you can do nothing.”  I want to do nothing apart from You.  Therefore, I place my life before You as a living sacrifice and say, “Take what You want of me for Your glory.”  It is in Jesus name I ask these things.
