FRIDAY- The Light

"The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned."  Isaiah 9:2 NIV

We have discussed Jesus this week... He is God... He has been there since the beginning... He is our Savior... He gave us His Spirit to show us the way. Today, I want to tell you that Jesus is the Light of the World.  He is the One Who will bring Light to your life.
Years ago, a question was posed to me that really cut me to the heart.  The question was this... "So, you believe in Jesus, but is He Lord of your life?"  The honest answer to this question reveals so much.  I've often thought about how the Disciples called Jesus "Master."  I have found that when I pray to the "Master", calling Him that name that out loud, it has a way of humbling me and helping me submit to His plans.  Do you call yourself a Christian and yet, Jesus is not Master of your life?
If you have been through a Journey Group, which I'm supposing most getting this devotional have experienced, you will know that our main message and goal is to help people have an "abiding relationship with Christ."  Rocky Fleming's pursuit of this goal began with John 15, where Jesus was giving His disciples one of His last lessons before He died.
"I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing." John 15:5 NASB

We discussed yesterday that the fruit of this relationship with Jesus is the Fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, ....Galatians 5:22-23).  Some might say these attributes are what we find at Christmas in the hearts of men, and that is why we call it "Christmas Spirit."  A few Christmas songs even lament that fact that Christmas only comes once a year, wishing every day could be like Christmas.  Guess what?  It can!
Jesus came to save us from our sins, but He also came to bring Light into our lives.  Until we understand this and accept it, we are walking around in the dark.  Many people, even those who attend church regularly, are still walking in the darkness.  That's why I love leading Journey groups.  I love seeing a group of believers, who have been calling themselves Christians for years, as they come into His Light.  He brightens their lives in such a way that by the end of The Journey, they have a glow about them.  It reminds me of how Moses' face was radiant as he came from the mountain after spending time with the Lord.
If you are reading this and you have the Light, keep letting your Light shine so those walking in the darkness will see your Light and be given Hope.  If, this Christmas, you find yourself in the darkness, you need to get on your knees in humility and give up the controls to your life.  Then, look up to the sky...look for that Light that guided the Shepherds and Wise Men to that manger on a dark, cold winter night.  Follow the Light and you will find that One named Jesus.  You will find the Lord of your life and the Light you have been seeking.  He is the One we celebrate this Christmas.  He is not a holiday...He is Jesus and He is life.
"I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."  John 8:12 NIV
