Open the Eyes of Our Hearts: A Letter from Rocky Fleming
My dear and precious ministry partners.
I’m writing this letter to our Global Board, our Regional Boards, our staff and our champions. I ask that this letter be passed along to our Regional Boards by our staff. I thank you for helping me with this distribution, for they are very much an essential part of the leadership of Influencers Global Ministries, and they need to know this.
This morning, after our prayer call on Tuesdays, I felt a need to go deeper and to know more about the Lord and His purpose, my purpose, and the purpose of the ministry we all serve in. The fact is I believe they all blend into His purpose, and we all have been raised up to play our part in it. I thought about a constant subject He keeps bringing me back to, which is the heart. I was reminded of the song, “Open the Eyes of My Heart,” so I asked where did they get that inspiration to write this song? Here’s where it originates.
“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,” - Eph 1:18 NASB
Maybe, like me, you’ve read this passage many times before and thought you understood about as much as you could about it? But I’ve discovered that this is not true. There is so much below the surface of the obvious understanding of this scripture, and all scripture. Like me with your own study of scripture, we tend to see something we read or journaled through before and think we got that one understood, and we start searching for other hidden gems and new enlightenment. For instance, I’ve been self-feeding on scripture for the last 45 years. There are not many scriptures that I’ve not at least read. But truly understanding the depth below the surface of what I’ve read I must declare, “I don’t know what I don’t know!” This is where the eyes of the heart comes in. Those “eyes” enlighten us to the things that those without Christ cannot know, and unfortunately many in God’s family do not know. Here’s another thought that connects with this enlightenment.
“And He was saying to them, “To you has been given the mystery of the kingdom of God, but for those who are outside, everything comes in parables,” Mark 4:11 NASB
As I penned The Journey over 20 years ago it is interesting that the Lord led me to open the process up with an emphasis on Enlightenment. It could have been inspired by the scripture I included. Who knows, for I didn’t know how much enlightenment was needed and wanted by God’s family. This was revealed as the process went forward, not by my design or the design and efforts of other men. It happened for we followed those Kingdom Secrets we discovered and helped others discover for themselves.
As God has opened the eyes on my heart, I’m seeing hidden treasure more clearly than ever before. It is there. There’s more there than we could ever imagine. For this reason, I feel that this becomes the main mission of Influencers, which is to help God’s family have the eyes of their hearts opened to Him. From that point of view, they discover those Kingdom Secrets that He speaks into their lives. This is the true, deep longing that we feel. It is found and filled when we abide in Him.
Dear Leaders, who I love. Let us hold true to the purpose and mission God has formed and raised Influencers up for. It will be you heart people, and other men and women like you after God’s own heart, who will breach the strongholds of God’s enemy and will set captives free. There is another passage that I feel reflects on current events and what we’ve been invited to join:
"Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.
Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
The wild beasts will honor me, the jackals and the ostriches,
for I give water in the wilderness, rivers in the desert,
to give drink to my chosen people, the people whom I formed for myself
that they might declare my praise." - Isaiah 43;19-21 ESV
Can we not see a new thing that God is doing in this world and nation that announces His Spirit making Himself known to His family and likely preparing us for something special, maybe an awakening of the body of Christ as never seen before in history? This ministry has been invited to be messengers of Enlightenment. May we continue on with this mission until His return. May God bless you as you follow Him and lead others to Him.
