Be Resolute

Wednesday -
ACTION:
Resolve to change your
priorites
As I write this devotional, I am surrounded by people younger than I in a coffee shop. Many of them have just completed a walk or jog.  Unlike me, they are drinking the latest super-fruit in their health drink.  They have on the latest jogging apparel and shoes.  They appear trim and healthy because of their dedicated effort.  They have made it a priority to work on their physical health.  They are beautiful on the outside of the person.  But, it is a great probability that they are quaking within because of fears about their future, the world they live in, and about whether they have the answers for the life they are facing.  And of course, there are the dirty secrets that most people try to hide.
If I were to poll these people about their spiritual health, it is a great probability that they have given very little attention to their souls.  Many do not know Christ, and if they have come to believe in Him, they make very little effort in getting to know Him better.  Why do I know this?  It is the condition of the Church in America.  We are spiritually anemic, for we haven't made it our highest priority to know our King in the deepest and nearest way possible.
To allow the changes that God can bring into your life which will create a new man in you, you will have to make it your priority to learn from Jesus.  These athletes around me eat right and exercise right. They work on their bodies to make them healthy.  It shows, as a result.  In the same way, you must eat the good nutrition of God's word daily and exercise the principles you discover daily by applying them to your life.  Before long, you will begin to see the changes to your life that you are hoping for.
"So don't lose a minute in building on what you've been given, complementing your basic faith with good character, spiritual understanding, alert discipline, passionate patience, reverent wonder, warm friendliness, and generous love, each dimension fitting into and developing the others. With these qualities active and growing in your lives, no grass will grow under your feet, no day will pass without its reward as you mature in your experience of our Master Jesus. Without these qualities you can't see what's right before you, oblivious that your old sinful life has been wiped off the books."  (1 Peter 1:5-9 MSG)
